Invoicing by Fusion Payments — Take payment
Take a payment on the spot. Key the card, charge the one on file, or hand them your phone.
"Take payment" opens from any page of Invoicing by Fusion Payments. Pick the customer, type the amount and what it is for, then charge a card on file, key a card, or let the customer key it on your phone. The charge is filed as a paid invoice with a receipt by email or text.

Invoicing by Fusion Payments — How it runs
How do I charge a customer over the phone without sending an invoice first?
Click "Take payment", pick the customer, type the amount and what it is for, then either tap their card on file and click "Charge", or click "Key a card" and type the card they read you. The invoice is created and marked paid behind the charge, and "Email receipt" or "Text receipt" sends the customer a receipt.
"Quick entry" fills the whole form from one line — the name, the amount, then what it is for. On a phone the drawer fills the screen with a keypad; on a computer it slides in from the right, and the $ key opens it from anywhere.
-
Cards on file, one tap
A customer with stored cards shows them as chips, with the default and any expired card marked.
-
The card form is your payment page
Keying a card opens your own secure payment page inside the drawer, prefilled with the customer. The invoicing software never holds the card number.
-
Every charge is a real invoice
The sale is filed as a paid invoice with the processor reference, so it shows on Reports, in the Payments CSV and in the customer’s history like any other.
Customer keys it
Can the customer type their own card on my phone?
Yes. Choose "Customer keys it": the screen shows only the amount and the card form. Hand the phone over, and when it reads "All set — hand it back." the payment has landed.
The customer can tick "keep this card" on that form, so the next sale is one tap on a card on file. Nothing is stored unless that box is ticked, and a card on file is never changed by a sale.
-
Declines in plain words
A declined card says so with the issuer’s reason. Pick another card or key one; nothing is retried on its own.
-
An unpaid sale is never lost
Close the drawer before the customer pays and it asks: discard the sale, or keep it as an open invoice to send later.
-
Surcharge or dual pricing shown, when there is one
Because the card form is your own payment page, a surcharge or dual pricing prints there the same way it does on an invoice — before the card is keyed. On an account that surcharges, the paid panel shows the card surcharge and the total charged; debit cards and bank payments never carry one.
Invoicing by Fusion Payments — Scope
What is the difference between Take payment and Record payment?
"Take payment" charges a card now, through your payment page. "Record payment" writes down money you already received another way — a check, cash, a card run on another device — and charges nothing.
The drawer takes one amount, tax included. Several lines, tax, discounts and notes belong on "New invoice", which can then be paid from its own link or charged from the same drawer. Card swipes on a countertop terminal are a separate channel and do not appear on the invoices list.

Q-01Do I need a card reader?
No. The drawer keys a card or charges one on file through your payment page. No hardware is involved.
Q-02Does the customer get a receipt?
When you press "Email receipt" or "Text receipt". Nothing is sent to the customer until you do, and the receipt is the same paid-invoice email and text the app sends elsewhere.
Q-03Can I take a deposit here?
Yes — the drawer charges the amount you type, so a deposit is a sale for that amount, filed as its own paid invoice with what it was for on the receipt.
Q-04Can I store the card for next time?
Only if the "keep this card" box is ticked on the card form, by you or by the customer. A stored card then appears in "Cards on file" and can be used for autopay on a recurring schedule.
