Fusion Payments

Nonprofits & churches

Every dollar was given to the mission. It should arrive whole.

Fusion Payments builds online giving for churches and charities: recurring gifts that keep the schedule the donor set, text-to-give that works from a pew, pledges that follow through — and a plain option at checkout for the donor to cover the processing fee.

Fusion Payments — The fee math

Figures illustrative*

The fee posts $2.48 at a gift. Across a year, it’s a line the board never voted on.

A treasurer never sees a $600 fee line — it nets out $2.48 at a time, two hundred forty gifts a month, before the deposit posts. Add it up across a year and it is money the mission never sees.

The other way to run it

Offer the donor the chance to carry it.

At checkout the donor sees the fee in dollars and chooses to add it — a volunteered gift on top of a gift, not a surcharge imposed on one. It is a distinct, legitimate mechanism, and we document it plainly enough to hand to your board.

How the option works

* Figures illustrative — one representative month at a 2.9% + 30¢ blend. Your rate, card mix, and gift sizes differ, and nonprofit interchange categories may price lower — which is exactly what a statement review establishes. Fixed monthly fees are not shown.

Where giving happens

Four ways a congregation gives. One ledger at year’s end.

Sunday is the visible moment. The other three run on the rail — on schedules donors set themselves, into a ledger the treasurer can actually read.

  1. In the service

    01 Text-to-give, from the pew

A number on the screen, and the gift is made from the phone before the offering reaches the aisle — no app, no account, receipt by text. The moment of generosity and the gift happen in the same minute.

moves: text → gift → posted · no app, no account

  2. On the schedule

02 Recurring giving keeps its own calendar

Weekly, monthly, first-Sunday — the gift charges a tokenized card on the schedule the donor chose and posts to the same ledger. Faithfulness that doesn’t depend on remembering.

charges: tokenized card · the donor’s schedule · no lapse, no chase

  3. After the pledge

    03 Pledges that follow through

A campaign pledge splits into scheduled gifts the donor agreed to up front — amounts and dates, in writing. The office is never in the business of calling to collect a promise.

follows: pledge → schedule → fulfilled · no collection calls

  4. At year’s end

    04 Statements that write themselves

Every gift, from every channel, in one ledger with the fees beside it — giving statements reconcile as a report, not as a January weekend with a spreadsheet.

reports: one ledger · giving statements · January without dread

* Every channel posts to the same ledger — the year-end statement is a report, not a project.

Fusion Payments — The other practice

Your website, handled.

Fusion Payments builds and hosts the sites its payment stacks run behind — one vendor, one accountable team, from the first visit to the deposit. If yours is due for a rebuild anyway, ask about the website program.

The donor option

The fee is real. Who carries it is a choice.

  • The option, stated at checkout

One line on the payment page: cover the processing fee — shown in dollars, not a percentage. The donor decides, and nothing is folded silently into the gift.

offers: cover-the-fee · shown in dollars, not percent

  • The gift posts whole either way

When the donor covers it, the mission receives the full amount given. When they don’t, the ledger shows exactly what processing took — gift, fee, covered: three columns, no mystery line at year’s end.

posts: gift · fee · covered — three columns

  • It is not a surcharge

A surcharge is imposed; this is volunteered. The donor is offered, never charged — a distinct mechanism, and we put it in writing plainly enough for a board packet.

differs: offered, never imposed · documented in writing

Q-01Can donors cover the processing fee?

Yes — plainly and by choice. The payment page shows the fee in dollars and offers the donor the chance to add it to the gift. It is volunteered, never imposed, which is what makes it a different mechanism from a surcharge — and the ledger tracks gift, fee, and covered amounts separately, so the year-end statement holds up.

see: The donor option

Q-02Does recurring giving work for tithes?

Yes. The donor sets the schedule — weekly, monthly, first-Sunday — and the gift charges a tokenized card on those dates and posts to the same ledger as everything else. The donor adjusts or ends the schedule themselves; the office never holds a card number, and nobody’s tithe depends on remembering.

Q-03Are we eligible for nonprofit pricing?

Possibly — the card networks maintain nonprofit interchange categories, and eligibility turns on your registration status and the network’s rules, not on ours. Bring a statement and your determination letter to the review and we price against the real categories rather than a brochure rate.

Q-04How does text-to-give work?

A number or keyword on the screen opens a hosted giving page in the donor’s own browser — no app, no account. The gift is made in under a minute, the receipt arrives by text, and it posts to the same ledger as Sunday’s terminal and the website’s giving page.

Q-05What about our website?

Fusion Payments builds and hosts websites as its second practice — giving pages, event signups, and the payment page on the same stack that runs the rest. If yours is a decade old, that is normal and fixable; it is priced alongside your statement review, so ask about the website program when you bring the statement.

*If your question is about a specific church-management or donor platform, ask it at the review — with the statement on the table, the answer is usually a demonstration.
